What is Left Brain?

Left Brain is a modular analog synthesizer that I designed with the intention of bringing the capabilities of a traditional analog monophonic synthesizer to a modular setting. This means that each part of the synthesizer is separated and must be patched together to function as a unit. This allows you to route audio and CV signals in unique ways that you could not normally achieve with a standard hardwired synthesizer. Left Brain utilizes subtractive synthesis, meaning you start with a waveform rich in harmonics and shave it down to obtain musically useful sounds. Left Brain contains every feature an analog subtractive synthesizer needs:

  • 1V/Octave tracking VCO

  • Voltage controlled low pass filter

  • Voltage controlled amplifier

  • Gate triggered ADSR envelope

  • Low Frequency Oscillator

  • 3 Channel op-amp mixer with distortion

  • Filtered noise generator

  • MIDI to CV converter(external keyboard control)

  • CV step sequencer

  • Buffered 4x signal multiplier

  • Passive attenuators
